Special Operational Command Centre, Greater Manchester Police

Q+A Planning secured planning permission in November 2018 to deliver a 3,000 sq. ft three storey new operational command centre on surplus land within GMP’s existing Openshaw complex. Key to the new building’s brief was to provide a dedicated vehicle access arrangement to facilitate a faster exit from the site for emergency response vehicles, to help ease internal congestion and improve ‘blue light’ response times into Manchester City Centre.

Due to time pressures associated with the delivery of the project, we recognised the merit in early engagement and consultation with the Council. This ensured the significant benefits of the scheme could be articulated and the application validation requirements agreed.

Post approval, Q+A continued to provide planning consultancy advice, securing various amendments, advertisement approval and managed the discharge of all necessary planning conditions in a timely manner that meant GMP were able to occupy the completed building at the end of 2020.
