The Great British Car Journey

The ‘Great British Car Journey’ is an innovative museum concept. The attraction provides a range of exhibits telling the story of the UK mass-produced car from the 1930s to date, with particular emphasis on family cars aimed at the mass market from the 1960s onwards. Uniquely, visitors are able to drive some of the museum’s exhibits on a self-contained driving route within the museum site.

The attraction is accommodated in a former wire production works on the banks of the River Derwent. Q+A Planning was instructed to secure the necessary planning consents for the use, the alterations to the building and the provision of outdoor facilities including the driving experience route. The attraction opened in 2021.
